  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten (divided)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the thawed puff pastry on top.
  3. In a bowl, mix the almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg until smooth.
  4. Spread the almond mixture down the center third of the puff pastry. Cut diagonal strips along both sides of the pastry edges.
  5. Fold these strips over the filling to create a braided appearance.
  6. Brush the top with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle sliced almonds on top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
